Powdercoated pastels
Studio Locus was asked to collaborate on the interior design of a modern penthouse apartment in North Amsterdam, working closely with the client to refine the spatial layout and material expression.
Our role focused on shaping the architectural character of the interior: we experimented with variations on a rounded volume that acts as a functional spine through the apartment, integrating the entrance wardrobe, installation room, bathroom, and toilet into a single sculptural element. This resulted in the baby blue block. We also proposed colour wrapping techniques to improve the existing central atrium, enhancing the daylight and visual connections between the kitchen-living space and a more secluded study area.
Throughout the project, we developed a clear material and colour strategy toegther with the clients existing furniture — using soft mint green as a continuous thread, while balancing clean, powdery tones with the warmth of a custom wooden kitchen island. The addition of baby blue tiles brings a tactile, domestic counterpoint to the minimal palette, creating a calm yet characterful interior.
