Studio

Studio Locus is a multidisciplinary architecture and design studio founded in 2023 by architect Lorna Gibson-Tjebbes. Inspired by the Latin word locus [meaning place] the studio is grounded in the belief that space is not only physical but social, lived, and storied.

We create socially responsive, research-driven spaces that reflect the narratives and values of the communities they serve. From civic centres and exhibitions to interiors and public installations, our work centralises people and place, enriching the everyday experience of the built environment. With this influence comes responsibility: to design with care for memory, meaning, and belonging, revealing the layered stories embedded in each site.

Our Approach

Listen & Research
We explore communities, histories, and cultural narratives to understand what makes a place meaningful. Participatory processes, spatial analysis, and architectural research uncover the social, cultural, and physical layers that guide every project.

Translate Into Design Principles
Insights are translated into actionable frameworks that guide projects while respecting heritage and community perspectives. This includes design strategies, policy support, and project planning, ensuring that interventions are practical, socially relevant, and future-ready.

Create Spaces That Matter
From concept to completion, we deliver interventions that are context-driven, poetic, and purposeful. Our work spans civic centres, exhibitions, interiors, installations, and adaptive reuse projects — all designed to reveal identity, history, and meaning. Thoughtful material choices, sustainable practices, and collaboration with local craftsmen add depth and tactility to every space.
